Sexual abuse is a tragic &
life-changing ordeal to go through. But it does not define the victim.

The Catholic Church abuse scandal is changing our communities

Recent news articles have detailed how the sexual abuse scandal has affected the Catholic Church.

CNN recently published a news article, calling 2018 the worst year for the Catholic Church since the Protestant Reformation in 1517. Federal investigations are taking place in 12 states and Washington D.C. Many Catholics are questioning whether to stay a part of the church. And a former Vatican ambassador has recommended that the Pope step down.

But what about the true victims – those who have experienced sexual abuse by members of clergy?

Many believe that sexual abuse victims have taken more steps forward than the Catholic Church. While survivors are speaking out, getting help, and demanding action, the church is, in many ways, dragging its feet.

But as more and more accounts of clergy sexual abuse come out, we are also learning how the church has worked to cover up these accounts.

The effects of the sexual abuse scandal are wide-reaching. Victims are affected for life. Families, schools, churches, and entire communities feel the effects. And many people who have been practicing Catholics their whole lives are struggling not knowing whether to stay in the church they’ve always known or to move on.

The Catholic clergy abuse scandal is causing ripple effects that will affect generations. While we will never know how many lives have been affected by this abuse, our law firm is committed to doing all we can to help survivors move on.
